Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information Dina collects, how we use and share it, how long we keep it, and the choices you have.
Dina is an account-based iPhone app with online features. Some screens in a particular version may be labeled as demonstrations and use fictional sample content; this policy applies to live account and service data and to the content you create.
For privacy questions or requests, contact dinaandfeedback@dinekining.com.
1. Information we collect
The information depends on the features you use:
- Account information: your name, email address or phone number, or an Apple-provided sign-in identifier and relay email, profile photo, age confirmation, account identifier, and sign-in method. If you use Sign in with Apple, Apple provides the information you authorize.
- Profile and preferences: city, biography, taste preferences, optional self-declared gender, language, notification choices, and discoverability settings.
- Your content: saved restaurants, status, priorities, private notes, visits, ratings, journal entries, poster images, photos or screenshots you upload, voice recordings, hellos, messages, table proposals, and related metadata such as timestamps.
- Safety and support information: reports, reasons, descriptions, blocked-member choices, and messages or attachments you send to support.
- Usage and device information: IP address, device model, operating-system and app version, language, approximate region derived from your network connection, push-notification token, feature interactions, request times, and error information. We use this to operate, secure, and troubleshoot the service.
- Permission-based information: microphone audio when you record a voice message, camera input when you use a camera feature, photos you choose to upload or save, and approximate location when you grant the location permission.
Approximate location
When you grant the location permission, Dina obtains an approximate location from your device to support discovery and to show relevant people and places. We do not collect precise GPS location, and we do not use location in the background. You can also set your city manually, and you can withdraw the location permission at any time.
We do not collect your contacts, health data, or an advertising identifier for cross-app tracking, and we do not use your content for advertising.
2. How we use information
We use information to create and secure accounts; provide restaurant lists, journals, posters, discovery, messaging, and table proposals; show your chosen profile and shared content to other members; deliver notifications you enable; process reports and blocks; respond to support requests; prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents; comply with law; and improve the reliability of the service.
Where required, our legal bases are performance of our contract with you, our legitimate interests in operating and securing the service, your consent for optional permissions and communications, and compliance with legal obligations. You can withdraw consent at any time without affecting processing that already occurred.
3. Permissions and your choices
- Microphone: requested when you record a voice message.
- Camera: requested when you use a camera feature, such as taking a profile photo.
- Photos: requested when you choose an image to upload or save an exported poster.
- Location: requested when you use discovery features that rely on approximate location; it is not used in the background.
- Notifications: requested if you enable push notifications for activity, messages, and account updates. You can change this in iOS Settings.
You can grant, deny, or change permissions in iOS Settings. A feature that needs a permission may be unavailable if you decline it. You can edit your profile, change discoverability, block members, and delete content in the app.
4. How we share information
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising or cross-app tracking.
- Other members: your profile and the content you choose to publish or send are visible to the members you share with. Private notes and private lists are not public. Messages are shared with their recipients.
- Service providers: we use providers for hosting and storage, authentication, push notifications, email and support, and security. They process information on our behalf under written agreements that require confidentiality, use restrictions, and an equivalent level of protection to that described in this policy.
- Apple: Apple processes information when you use Sign in with Apple, the Apple Push Notification service, or other Apple features, under Apple's privacy policy.
- Legal and safety: we may disclose information when required by law or when reasonably necessary to protect users, the public, our rights, or the security of the service.
- Business changes: information may be transferred as part of a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, subject to this policy and applicable law.
5. Retention and account deletion
We keep information only as long as needed for the purposes described above:
- Account and profile: while your account is active and for up to 30 days after deletion to complete the process.
- Your content: while your account is active. After deletion, content is removed from active systems within 30 days, subject to backup cycles and the limited retention below.
- Messages: until you delete them or delete your account. Copies held by recipients or exported by you are not controlled by us.
- Reports, blocks, and support requests: up to 12 months after the matter is closed, where needed for safety, dispute resolution, or legal protection.
- Logs: generally up to 30 days, unless needed for an investigation or legal obligation.
- Legal obligations: information we are required to retain by law, or need to establish or defend legal claims, is kept only until that obligation ends.
To delete your account, use the Delete account control in Profile → Settings and follow the confirmation steps. Save anything you want to keep first. If the control is not available in your version, or you cannot access the app, email dinaandfeedback@dinekining.com from the address associated with your account. Deletion removes your account and associated content from active systems within 30 days, except for the limited records described above. It does not remove copies you shared with other members, exported, or placed in another service.
6. Security and processing location
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures appropriate to the information we handle, including access controls, encryption in transit, and service-provider safeguards. No method of transmission or storage can guarantee absolute security. Do not send passwords or verification codes to support.
Dina is offered to users in the United States, and information is processed and stored in the United States. We do not transfer information to other countries. Apple and other service providers that operate independently of Dina may process information under their own policies, such as Sign in with Apple; this policy does not describe that independent processing.
7. Your privacy rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or receive a copy of your personal information; to object to certain processing; to withdraw consent; and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. You can exercise many of these choices directly in the app: edit your profile, delete content, change discoverability and permissions, export supported records, and delete your account.
To make a request or ask a question, email dinaandfeedback@dinekining.com. We may ask for information reasonably necessary to verify your identity and will respond within the time required by applicable law. We will not discriminate against you for exercising a privacy right.
8. California privacy rights
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CCPA/CPRA), may give you rights to know and access the categories and specific pieces of personal information we collect, the sources and purposes, and the categories of recipients; to delete and correct personal information; to opt out of sale or sharing; to limit certain uses of sensitive personal information; and to use an authorized agent.
We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under the CCPA/CPRA, and we do not use it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not collect precise geolocation. To exercise a right, email the address in this policy. We will verify and respond within the periods required by law.
9. Adults only
Dina is intended only for people aged 18 and older and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly allow anyone under 18 to create an account or use the social features, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a person under 18 has provided information to us, contact dinaandfeedback@dinekining.com so we can promptly delete it.
10. Website privacy
This support website is a static site. It does not require an account, set advertising or tracking cookies, or include analytics or advertising scripts. The hosting provider may process ordinary request information, such as an IP address and browser information, to deliver pages and maintain security. If you follow a link to another website, that website's privacy practices apply.
11. Changes and contact
We may update this policy as the service and legal requirements change. The effective date above identifies the latest version. For material changes, we will provide notice in the app or on this page before the change takes effect, and we will request consent where required.
